The "Information In" Direction: a Cataloging and Publishing Story
I'm the SEC Librarian and I want to be able to:
- keep a bibliography in EndNote [or ProCite] containing the books, reports, and publications created by the Sonoma Ecology Center so they can be used in-house for writing proposals
- keep the maps and spatial data catalog in ArcCatalog
- manage SEC's project descriptions in a system that also stores links to my contract, budget, and assignment (project management) information
- create links between related works- such as a report and the map plates that are in the report, the project that produced the report, and the citations in the report if I have those in my bibliography
- get keywords from the Commons to put in my catalog records that make the records dovetail with the NRPI, BAWP, and SFBJV systems
- export all those records easily so they can become part of the organization's website and also get picked up by CERES, NRPI, and the Northbay Commons and will be included in searches by BAWP and SFBJV
- update my own records from the in-house cataloging systems and expect to see the update propagate across the network within two weeks
